Most problems that appear after a sink is fitted share the same origin: a seal overtightened, a trap installed at the wrong fall, or silicone applied to a damp surface. An experienced plumber tightens connections hand-tight plus a quarter turn with a spanner and no more, because a forced thread cracks the plastic nut and starts dripping weeks later. The trap is fitted with a continuous fall towards the stack, with no horizontal sections where residue collects, and the water seal must be maintained to block drain odours. Silicone sealing is done on a perfectly dry, degreased surface, otherwise the bead lifts within months and water reaches under the worktop, where it swells the chipboard beyond repair.
